Welcome to LABITEM, the University Laboratory of Bioengineering and Biomedical Data Science, at the Department of Medical Biotechnology of the University of Siena.

The LABITEM is directed by Prof. G. Cevenini of the Bioengineering research group and operates through multidisciplinary project teams involving researchers, technicians, healthcare professionals and administrative staff belonging to the DBM, to other Departments of the University of Siena, to the University Hospital, and cooperates with other universities and external parties.

Our goal is to deal with clinical decision support systems, so that information reaches those who need it, where and when it is needed, with efficiency, effectiveness and safety. We also apply and make modern technologies accessible to the worlds of university education in life sciences, biomedical research and clinical care. We manage equipment and infrastructure and create products and services designed for university facilities and for public and private partners.

The Laboratory is inside the University Hospital of Siena, managing a set of resources, projects and services supporting the scientific, educational and administrative activities of the DBM department. Follow this link if you want to know where we are, how to reach us and how to contact us.

We have over 30 years of history. Founded in 2012, LABITEM is the current landing place of a path started in 1981, when a group of engineers, bioengineers and computer technicians joined to form the original "Computer Sciences Service" center at the former Institute of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the Medical School of the University of Siena. Subsequently, the Institute merged in 2002 into the Department of Surgery and Bioengineering and again in 2012 in the current Department of Medical Biotechnologies (DBM).
